My husband and I were visiting a bakery yesterday and as I was checking out, the lady pulled out her ipad, swiped my card and asked if I'd like my receipt e-mailed to me. As a business owner, my jaw dropped as I drooled over her easy and awesome new gadget. She smiled and explained this point of sale device to me in detail.

More and more, in stores all across America, quick-thinking retail clerks are checking people out and swiping credit cards from any point in the store, with the help of mobile point-of-sale (POS) devices.

That isn’t the only advantage for store employees with a POS device. They can use it to check if a clothing item is available in another color or size at another store location, without having to walk over to a computer.

Again, this focuses the customer’s attention on buying the item, rather than re-assessing whether it’s really worth all the trouble. Because, thanks to mobile POS devices, it’s practically no trouble.

Some big retailers have reported as much as 15% in increased sales since using mobile POS.

And while it may sound like mobile POS devices only benefit merchandisers, that’s not the case. As the old saying goes, time is money. In an increasingly hectic world, everybody benefits when long lines are reduced at stores, so customers are likely to appreciate the efficiency of a store where mobile POS is used.

That means they’ll be more likely to come back and shop at that store again (I hope!). We placed our order for one that night!
