TECH CORPS has named Carla Thompson as the new Central Ohio Regional Director. Thompson brings more than 10 years of experience in the K-12 educational arena. As a former Principal, she is passionate about empowering young minds and exposing students to new and exciting opportunities, especially in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
“Carla’s experience as well as her passion for education made her the ideal candidate for this position,” said Lisa M. Chambers, TECH CORPS National Director. “I know that she will bring great ideas and energy to the organization and I am excited about having her on the team.”
Thompson has served as a volunteer/mentor with one of TECH CORPS’ Central Ohio regional programs - TECH CORPS/NSBE Jr. Chapter. This program provides Franklin County high school students with an opportunity to work on advanced STEM topics with practicing engineers, scientists, and other technical professionals from NSBE’s Central Ohio Alumni Extension.
In her new role as Regional Director, Thompson will focus on maintaining and expanding the regional infrastructure to support the delivery of TECH CORPS programs to students throughout Central Ohio.
“I am elated about joining the TECH CORPS team,” said Thompson. “I look forward to working with Lisa and the wonderful volunteers as we expand TECH CORPS’ reach and impact in the Central Ohio region.”
Thompson is a member of the National Society of Black Engineers and serves on the Pre-College Initiative (PCI) committee for the Central Ohio Alumni Extension (COAE); she is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University.
