Looking for an efficient and effective way to grow your business? I frequently recommend consulting  the smart people at the Ohio SBDC (Small Business Development Center).  But, before you contact Mike Bowers and his colleagues, I suggest you use Columbus Metropolitan Library resources to research your industry.

There are several components to industry research, which can include finding company SWOT analysis reports for your competitors, and compiling a list of B2B (Business-to-Business) contacts.

Start with our Researching an Industry Online tutorial, which is absolutely FREE via columbuslibrary.org/research/. You will need a library card number to access resources, such as Business Source Premier and Business & Company Resource Center.

You can also download or print this checklist to use as your guide. All of the resources listed on the document above are free from your home or office with your CML library card number and PIN, with the notable exception of Hoover’s Online, which you must visit one of our library locations to use.

Another great resource is the TechColumbus business portal, CentralOhioEntrepreneurs.org.  Try using the phrases competitive intelligence resources, or food entrepreneur resources in the search box to look for a checklist of free information compiled by your TechColumbus librarian.

Remember all resources are available for free with your library card. If you have any questions or want additional information, I can be reached at bbeardsley@columbuslibrary.org.
