Profile Information

This Is Me

Since 2002 I have served as the Regional Director of the Ohio Small Business Development Center. I hold a Bachelor’s degree from The University of North Alabama, with majors in Economics and Finance and a Master’s degree from The Ohio State University in Public Administration. I spent the first 10 years of my professional career in banking and financial services. In 1999, I joined the Greater Columbus Chamber in the position of Executive Director of the Columbus Venture Network. In this capacity I led the organization’s efforts to increase the level of equity financing available to early stage businesses. Given my background in the investment space I endeavor to help prepare entrepreneurs to seek and obtain equity financing.

The Ohio Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is committed to you, the small business owner. The staff of the SBDC is passionate about small business and helping you succeed. The SBDC provides business advising and consulting services at "No Charge" to the entrepreneur as part of our relationship with the Small Business Administration and the State of Ohio. Also, we have one of the best SBDC teams in the country as evidenced by our being named the regional (five midwestern states) winner of the Service Center and Innovation Award by the SBA for 2007.

I write a business blog call "Ideas to Deals" covering various business topics. You can also find me on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. Finally you should check out and subscribe the the official blog for the Ohio Growth Summit Ohio's premier small business conference.

9 Blogs You Should Read That Can Help Your Business Right Now

I'm a big social media guy. I love Twitter. I read blogs more than I read books, watch YouTube more than live news and I like to think I have a pretty good blog at Ideas To Deals. Having said all of that it gets real noisy on the internet. Tough to figure out what is good and worth your time to follow and what is crap. Sure you can follow the big names but sometimes it…

Thoughts on Venture Capital and Entrepreneurship

Last week I attended a very interesting Columbus Metropolitan Club forum featuring Sequoia Capital  venture capitalist Michael Moritz . Michael has invested in some companies that you might have heard of such as Yahoo, Zappos, PayPal and Google. While this is an impressive list it is important to remember that all of these…
